Is the Fraser Canyon Open? is a free, independent status page that answers one question: is the Fraser Canyon section of Highway 1 — the Trans-Canada between Hope and Lytton, through Yale, Boston Bar and Spences Bridge — currently open, closed, delayed, or under scheduled avalanche control.
Why it exists
The Fraser Canyon is a steep, historic corridor that is highly prone to rockslides, mudslides, debris flows, washouts, flooding and wildfire — the 2021 atmospheric river famously tore it apart. When something happens, you want the answer in one glance — no ads, no popups, no accounts, no fluff. Just current Fraser Canyon highway conditions.
Where the data comes from
The status is pulled directly from the BC Ministry of Transportation's DriveBC Open511 API and refreshed every five minutes. We filter to events on Highway 1 within the Fraser Canyon corridor — Hope, Yale, Alexandra Bridge, Hells Gate, Boston Bar, Jackass Mountain, Lytton and Spences Bridge — and deliberately exclude the Malahat, which is also Highway 1 but on Vancouver Island. Driver reports beneath the main status are unverified crowd input, useful when official data lags a fast-moving incident.
